Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Akaygün received her undergraduate degree in teaching chemistry from Boğaziçi University in 1993. Between 1993 to 2005 she taught chemistry and middle school science at two private high schools in Istanbul. In 2000, she earned her M.S. in Secondary School Science and Maths Education from Boğaziçi University. Between 2000 to 2004 she worked as part-time instructor at Boğaziçi University, and taught laboratory applications in secondary science, instructional methods in science education, and school observation courses. She earned her M.S. in chemistry (2008) and her Ph.D in chemical education (2009) from University of Northern Colorado. In her dissertation, Dr. Akaygün investigated the effects of computer visualizations on students’ mental models of dynamic nature of physical equilibrium. She has joined the Department of Second School Science and Math Education in Spring 2010.

Research Interests
Visualization in science/chemistry, using multirepresentations in chemical education, mental models, science/chemistry teacher education, nanoscience/nanotechnology education
