Ayşe Gürel holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from McGill University, Montréal, Canada. She is presently working at the Department of Foreign Language Education at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Her teaching experience includes courses she has taught at Boğaziçi University, Department of Foreign Language Education (Theories of Second Language Acquisition, Second Language Learning Language Transfer, Survey of Applied Linguistics, Practice Teaching in EFL, Seminar on Practice Teaching, Language Awareness,), at Boğaziçi University, the Centre for Continuing Education and at the School of Arts and Science, Language Centre (Turkish for Foreigners). She also taught at McGill University, Department of Linguistics (Introduction to the Study of Language-104-201), and McGill University, Faculty of Arts (Introductory Turkish- 397-532D).
Research Interests
Her research interests are first language attrition and second language acquisition of morpho-syntactic features of English and Turkish, as well as neurolinguistic and psycholinguistic aspects of language acquisition and language loss.
